Healthy Soup For Dogs And Cats

I originally formulated this recipe as an additional light meal to add to any pet´s feeding program, especially to aid in taste and for those who feed their animals with commercial pet food, to add essential micro nutrients, missing in the processed foods.
I recommend it for dogs, cats and even ferrets, with skin issues, allergies, eczema and sensitive stomachs. It is also an ideal light and healthy meal for overweight pets or those on a weight loss program, as it is still rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, yet is is light in calories.

Success is reported also from pet owners who are switching from commercial pet food to more natural, species appropriate diet.

It can be used for those finicky eaters as a palatable "camouflage" of a meal they are not very interested in or to help getting them used to new nutritional supplements, such as kelp and other seaweed, herbs and spices, etc.

Healthy Soup For Dogs And Cats Recipe:

1 liter water
2 large carrots (preferably organic or from your own garden, not chemically fertilized)
1/4 - 1/3 of broccoli head
2 large garlic cloves
1/2 sweet potato
Handful of fresh parsley leaves
2 table spoons virgin olive or coconut oil
Handful of fresh Nettles (you can used dried too)
4 large Dandelion leaves
Handful of fresh Chickweed
1 table spoon flex seed
1 table spoon Kelp meal
2 pinches of fresh ground black pepper
Lean muscle meat without bones: chicken, turkey, white fish fillet (for example pollock), beef, chicken stomachs or hearts. You can use 1-2 whole raw eggs without shells instead of 100-200g of meat.
Use ideally grass fed, small farm raised, free range sources. And make sure the poultry is raised without antibiotics and growth stimulants (hormones).

Preparation Instructions:
  • Chop all vegetables into small pieces except for carrots
  • Chop dandelion, nettles and chickweed
  • Put water in a pot, add flex seed and bring to boil, then turn heat on low
  • Add meat, let boil for 2 minutes, then remove. If you opt for eggs instead of meat, add them at the very end.
  • Add broccoli and sweet potato for 10 minutes
  • grate carrots coarsely into the pot
  • add parsley, dandelion, nettles and chickweed greens, plus kelp
  • add garlic, oil and black pepper
  • if you are using eggs, add them at the point and stir thoroughly. if you are using meat, then you have already cooked it, so just chop into small pieces and add to the ready soup.

NOTE: You can also make smaller amount of the soup, for example 1/2 liter, or make it thicker (less water or more meat, vegetables and herbs) or creamy (running the soup through a blender). Use your imagination! :)
What´s important is the time of cooking for each ingredient, in order not to destroy important nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, enzymes, etc.

Great recipe! I love soups and stews, and often add portions of those which I make for myself to my dogs' food. Since their diet is mainly raw ground meat, I just mix in with a scoop of soup for variety and health benefits!
